Why:

You will likely benefit from the Compassion Focused Therapy 12 week group if you notice that you:

  • criticize yourself and/or others,
  • avoid valued life experiences because of fear and shame,
  • feel like an imposter who over or under performs
  • notice your standards are always shifting to be just out of reach or are unattainable,
  • experience a sense of isolation from others

Who is this group for?

This 12 week psychologist led psychotherapy group is specifically designed for adults who experience shame and struggle with criticism of self and other, pretending, over and under performing, and resisting assertiveness of individual needs.

What does this group involve?

Each session includes teaching, experiential exercises and group processing. By the end of this course, you will:

  • Learn how to access your most under utilized motivational resource.
  • Learn the evolutionary origins and function of your emotions, especially shame.
  • Learn how to establish a foundation of safeness in your mind and body.
  • Understand the origins and functions of your over-reliance in drive and threat systems to accomplish your goals.
  • Learn how to stop self attacks.
  • Learn how to shift mindsets to build your confidence and skillfulness in relationships with self and others.
  • Learn valuable experiential skills for managing difficult emotions with flexibility,
  • Learn how to build qualities of compassionate self leadership.

How much?  $1299 (no HST). This is a FRACTION of the cost of individual therapy for many more therapy hours.  You will have 48 hours of therapist contact (24 x 2 therapists) over 12 weeks.  1299/12 = $54 per hour or $27 per hour when you realize you have TWO professionals totally focused on your wellbeing and growth.

About Your Group Clinicians:

This 12 week CFT group is led by a registered psychologist, Dr. Paul Grunberg C.Psych., (McGill University), and registered psychotherapist (qualifying), Riley Desmarais MA (student), who are colleagues at an Ottawa based practice emphasizing psychological interventions from the Third Wave of psychotherapy, particularly approaches grounded in compassion science and mindfulness practice.

Dr. Grunberg completed his PhD at McGill university, where he trained primarily in third-wave CBT, including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). Dr. Grunberg has co-facilitated multiple therapy groups using ACT, DBT, CFT, and process orientations. As a clinical psychologist, he works with youth and adults on a variety of issues, often focusing on core issues of shame, criticism, and maladaptive coping strategies (e.g., self-harm) and the development of healthy value-driven relationships to self and others.

Mr. Desmarais is a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying) who is completing his Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology at the University of Ottawa. He works with youth and adults who experience difficulties related to anxiety, depression, disordered eating, and interpersonal and LGBTQ2S+ issues.
